President of China, Xi Jinping recently announced five major programmes designed to pursue development and revitalisation with Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries.
This was during his keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the fourth ministerial meeting of China-the Community of LAC states (ECLAC) held in Beijing, China.
The programmes will comprise solidarity, development, civilisation, peace and people-to-people connectivity, with three-year benchmarks to be achieved in these key areas.
Additionally, according to President Xi, five LAC countries will travel visa-free to China, with an expansion of the visa-free policy for additional countries over time.
Collaboration between China and LAC countries is critical to promoting continuous progress in building a community with a shared future, strengthening synergies between the development strategies of LAC countries and the Belt and Road Initiative, while promoting cooperation in trade, investment and infrastructure, among other sectors.
