Opportunities to build stronger business, investment and education links between Ireland and Barbados were explored during a visit to Shannon by H.E. Cleviston Haynes, Ambassador of Barbados to Ireland [recently]. The delegation included Minister Counsellor Kendra Holdip, deputy head of mission, Embassy of Barbados to Ireland and representatives from Invest Barbados.

The visit, which was initiated by Shannon company BBnet and facilitated by Shannon Chamber, brought together the Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council, Cllr. Joe Kileen and representatives from business, tourism, education and local government to discuss areas where the Mid-West and Barbados could work more closely together and to hear details of an upcoming business mission to Barbados.

The meeting formed part of the Embassy’s ongoing efforts to deepen relations between Barbados and Ireland and was its first outreach visit to Shannon.

Discussions highlighted the similarities between the two island economies, both of which are outward-looking, internationally connected and strongly focused on tourism, enterprise, education, innovation and sustainable development.

Barbados was presented as a potential gateway for Irish businesses seeking to access the wider Caribbean and Latin American markets, similarly to Ireland providing international companies with access to the European market.
