Outgoing United States Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Roger Nyhus, has expressed his deep appreciation to the Government and people of Barbados for allowing him to serve in a spirit of unity and friendship.
He reflected on his tenure and his achievements during his short stint as Ambassador, during a farewell call on Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley at Parliament recently.
“I am deeply honoured to serve in your beautiful country,” said Ambassador Nyhus, as he addressed the meeting that was attended by Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kerrie Symmonds; Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office with responsibility for Culture, Senator Dr. Shantal Munro-Knight; Minister in Economic Affairs and Investment, Senator Chad Blackman; and other officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, the United States Embassy, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Prime Minister Mottley said she was sorry to see him leave. She added that diplomatic postings can lead to life-long friendships, and she praised the long-standing relationship between the United States and Barbados.
The two officials discussed several topics, including the Ambassador’s role in the signing of a US$500 million memorandum of understanding with the Export Import Bank of the United States last November; improving the region’s airlift connectivity, and adding additional airlift from the USA.
