Invest Barbados was among the presenters at the recently held Green and Low-Carbon Cooperation Promotion Meeting between Yantai City of China and Barbados, at the Accra Beach Hotel & Spa.

This was part of a three-day visit by a delegation of business executives from Yantai City, who visited Barbados to promote the International Zero-Carbon Island Cooperation Initiative and inspire the cooperation between the two nations in zero-carbon island construction and sustainable development.

The meeting was hosted by Yantai City and the Association of Barbados China Friendship with a primary aim to foster collaboration between the two nations in clean energy, vocational training and business development.

At the forum, Ms. Sandra Payne, Deputy CEO, Invest Barbados, delivered a presentation to the audience, which included the advantages of doing business in Barbados. She emphasised the nation’s cordial long-standing, economic and commercial ties with China, noting that the relation between the two nations continued to be a model of partnership and mutual benefit. Highlighting that Barbados was excited to explore new opportunities together with China, Deputy CEO Payne also indicated that the opportunities in the green, blue and knowledge economies aligned with Barbados’ interests and there was much scope for collaboration.

Director of the Yantai Zero-Carbon Island Development Centre, Hu Yibing, noted that the visit was designed “to work with friends from all walks of life in Barbados to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, promote green and low-carbon cooperation, and contribute to the sustainable development of the island”.

In recent times, Barbados has emerged as a leading voice in shaping international discussions on climate change mitigation.
