The International Business sector will be celebrating its sixth International Business Week from Sunday, October 5 through Saturday, October 11 of this year. A number of informative and educational activities have been planned.

International Business Week was first conceptualised in 2009 by the Barbados International Business Association (BIBA), the then Ministry of International Business and International Transport, Invest Barbados and other strategic partners. The week of activities is designed to raise awareness about the importance of the international business sector to Barbados’ economy and showcases Barbados as the domicile of choice for international business.

The week will get started with a Church Service on Sunday, October 5 at the St. Thomas Parish Church. Members of BIBA and its strategic partners will join the church congregation at 9:00 a.m.

A School’s Symposium, which caters to business students and other students in fifth and sixth forms, will be hosted on Tuesday, October 7 at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre from 8:30 a.m. Students attending will get the opportunity to learn more about the international business sector and gain exposure regarding the various careers offered.

Later that evening, a public discussion will take place at the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination at 7:00 p.m. In what is expected to be a highly interactive session, several experts within the sector will present on a range of topics geared to stimulate and engage the audience.

On Wednesday, October 8, the popular Careers Showcase will again be held on the Guild Lawn of the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus from 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. University students and graduates interested in pursuing careers in the international business sector will benefit from expert guidance from professionals within the field, drawn from the public and private sector.

The flagship event of International Business Week will be the two-day Latin American Business Conference, which will be hosted on October 9-10 at the Hilton Barbados Hotel. This year’s conference will focus on the Latin American market. Appropriately themed: ‘Bridging the Americas: Barbados… your Gateway’, the conference is designed to foster stronger relationships between Barbados and the Latin American region. Several Latin American speakers will present on a number of topics relating to the business and regulatory environment in their various territories.

The week of activities will conclude with a 5 km Fun Walk/Run on Saturday, October 11, where participants will take to the streets from 4:00 p.m. from the Garrison to Aquatic Gap via Belleville, St. Michael. This annual Walk/Run is designed to raise funds to contribute to BIBA’s charity, which supports Barbados’ public healthcare.
