South by Southwest is one of the largest music festivals held annually in the United States. The event, now in its 24th year, is a must on the calendar of music executives, promoters and other industry professionals as the who’s who of music are in attendance.
This year, it is expected that almost 2,000 artistes from around the world will be featured during the music segment of the festival which runs from March 17-21, 2010 in Austin, Texas. These include a dynamic set of emerging Barbadian artistes who will be showcasing their talent as Invest Barbados presents, The Barbados Talent Show – Next!
Kite, an international award winning band, Mahalia Phillips of the up and coming band Nexcyx, Kirk Browne of the Strategy Band fame, Rubytech and Shane Forrester will be flying the Barbadian flag at the showcase on Friday, March 19, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the West Tent, Brush Square Park. These artistes represent just some of Barbados’ growing crop of emerging artistes set to follow in the footsteps of internationally renowned artistes the likes of Rihanna, Shontelle and Hal Linton.
This initiative to unleash the export potential of Barbados’ music sector, is spearheaded by the Indigenous Services Export (ISE) Division of Invest Barbados who will lead the Barbadian delegation to South by Southwest. The ISE Division seeks to assist Barbadian services providers in targeted sub-sectors to maximise their international exposure and foreign exchange earnings.
