Invest Barbados continued its promotional thrust during the months of April and May of this year, showcasing Barbados’ value proposition and the domicile as a prime location for international business and financial services.
Barbados was well-represented at the RIMS 2015 Annual Conference and Exhibition, which was held in New Orleans, Louisiana, from April 26-29. The occasion marked 32 years of participation as an exhibitor for the Barbados delegation at this popular risk management event. The Barbados delegation comprised senior executives from the Financial Services Commission, Barbados International Business Association, Captive Insurance Management Companies, such as JLT Barbados, DGM Captive Management Inc., RBC Dominion Securities Global Limited, Century Property & Casualty Corporation, an attorney-at-law from El Misphat Law Chambers and representatives from Invest Barbados. Members of the delegation were on hand to answer queries relating to the advantages of establishing an international business in Barbados.
The Annual Offshore Alert Conference, now in its 13th year, was held in South Beach, Miami Beach, Florida during May 3-5. The event saw over 250 attendees, service providers and investigative journalists from across the globe, gathered together to discuss issues surrounding transparency, fraud and security. The Barbados team highlighted why Barbados continues to be a well-regulated, treaty based jurisdiction. This was further reinforced when it was noted during the conference, that the domicile was not included among the list of secrecy jurisdictions.
Barbados was also represented at the STEP Caribbean Conference, which took place in St. Maarten from May 4-6. This two and a half day conference, which focused on the latest developments in trust and estate practice, was hosted by STEP Anguilla. Visitors to the Barbados booth got an opportunity to learn more about what the domicile had to offer in relation to international trusts and wealth management options.
Two days of road shows were also held in Miami, in the form of meetings with private wealth management and tax advisors, with a focus on the Latin American market and to showcase the Barbados government’s new initiatives for high net worth individuals. Several of the service providers were already familiar with the jurisdiction and those who were less familiar were introduced to the range of Barbados international business incentives which are on offer.
In the coming weeks, Invest Barbados will be participating in the Captives and Corporate Insurance Strategies Summit, as both a Gold Sponsor and exhibitor. This event will be held in Toronto, Canada on May 27-28. The promotion agency will also be exhibiting at the 17th Annual STEP Canada Conference, also to be held in Toronto on June 18-19.
