Bridgetown is the first capital city and cruise port in the Caribbean with full Wi-Fi coverage.
This initiative, which is part of the BCCI’s Bridgetown Beautification and Revitalisation Project, connects over 50 businesses, providing over 100 Wi-Fi hotspots in and around the city.
Wi-Fi Project Manager at LIME, Mr. Chris Blackwood, confirmed that the sites include Hincks Street around the LIME Carlisle House retail store, lower Broad Street abutting Chapel Street and Jubilee Gardens, Pelican, the Harbour Industrial Park and as far north as Kensington Oval and Holborn.
The BCCI and LIME have signed the memorandum of understanding for the provision of this service for a five year period until March 2016.
The project, which offered free access in its initial test phase in June and July, is now fully on stream and from November 1, patrons will still be able to have access but for a small fee. The BCCI expects that the project will encourage visitors as well as locals to visit the city and stay for long periods, thereby generating more business.
