BDO, the world’s fifth largest accountancy network, recently announced the admission of a new member firm in Barbados.
BDO Barbados, previously known as Ward, Patel & Co Chartered Accountants, was established in 2002 by the firm’s two current managing partners, Joseph Ward and Hanif Patel and is based in Bridgetown, Barbados. In addition to the two partners, the new BDO firm has two senior managers and nine other professional staff.
Joseph Ward explained that the time is right to join an international network and develop both their people and their firm, for the benefit of their clients. He indicated that “growing and retaining talented partners and staff is a priority for our firm, which has maintained consistent growth since its founding but is now ready for a step-change.
Like many others, the accounting profession has evolved both in terms of technical and regulatory requirements and with this has come the need for us to look to improve our systems, enhance our access to technical resources and provide in house structured training and development for our staff. BDO gives us the means to meet all these needs and because of synergies with our existing systems this can be achieved in a very efficient manner”.
“Our island is a small community, but within it our firm has developed a good reputation for excellent client service”, adds Hanif Patel. “We are therefore confident of a cultural fit with our fellow BDO Member Firms, as we all build strong relationships with our clients and aim to add value to their businesses”.
Martin van Roekel, CEO of BDO International Limited, said “Our new firm in Barbados joins a vibrant BDO region with an already significant international client base and a reputation for strong local market knowledge, broad industry expertise and excellent technical skills. This appointment will ensure that our clients right across the region will find in BDO the service capabilities to fulfill their complex needs. BDO will certainly provide the firm with the opportunity to develop and grow their business, and I look forward to seeing commensurate growth in the region as a whole”.
The BDO global network provides advisory services in 135 countries, with almost 48,900 people working out of 1,118 offices worldwide.
