Invest Barbados (IB), in collaboration with the Consulate General of Barbados at Miami, the Barbados Liaison Service, the Barbados Tourism Authority and the Barbados USA Chamber of Commerce, will be showcasing the country as a premiere investment domicile and tourism destination when they host the first “Barbados comes to Amelia Island,” at the Four Diamond Resort in Florida. The event is scheduled to take place on September 4 – 7, 2009.

One of the highlights of the showcase will be a gala dinner on Saturday, September 5. Barbados’ Prime Minister, the Honourable David Thompson, Q.C., M.P., is scheduled to deliver the feature address at the dinner. Attendees will also be treated to a sampling of the best in Barbadian culture. A full schedule of activities is available at website www.barbados-amelia.com.

Chief Executive Officer of Invest Barbados, Wayne Kirton, will lead the IB team at the four day event. Kirton explained that IB’s purpose at the showcase will be twofold.   IB will promote the existence of the recently introduced Network Barbados website, as well as profile Barbados as a preferred location for international investment.

NetworkBarbados – www.networkbarbados.com – is a professional networking site which was created by Invest Barbados, to help unleash the export potential of Barbados’ indigenous services sector. This unique and exciting initiative is designed to facilitate the export of Barbadian services to global markets. The website provides a virtual gateway for both friends of Barbados and Barbadians, to meet, network, and do business. It is a categorized database, offering service providers, investors and consumers, quick, convenient and effective access to a wider, more internationally focused resource pool of potential business partners.  Registration is free, and users can create and update their profiles and project information on an on-going basis.

In terms of investment promotion, the IB representatives will be informing attendees of the benefits of doing business in Barbados. In particular, information will be shared on Barbados’ well regulated, business-friendly environment, and its network of tax and investment treaties. The promotion team will also address Barbados’ other competitive advantages including the island’s distinguished record of social, economic and political stability, strong human capital, high-quality infrastructure, low tax, investment protection provisions, and excellent quality of life.

Persons interested in investing in Barbados will be able to share their ideas with IB’s executives, and explore several opportunities including:

Financial services – international banking, insurance, sales, wealth management, mutual funds;

Information Communication Technology – Knowledge based customer contact centres, software development, medical transcription, claims processing;
