As the fintech wave continues to spread globally, Invest Barbados (IB) will for the first time be participating as an exhibitor in the North American Bitcoin Conference, which will take place from January 16-18, 2019, at the Clevelander Hotel, Miami Beach, Miami, Florida.
This conference, which attracts approximately 4,500 attendees, including CEOs, senior executives, investors, government officials and others, will feature several keynote presentations, on-stage discussions, a number of exhibitors from across the globe and five world-class networking events.
Barbadian Marlon Yarde, Managing Director, Barbados Stock Exchange Inc and Barbados Central Securities Depository Inc, will be one of the featured guest speakers, who will be part of the Investment Panel, discussing trending issues, market deception and distortion and how to avoid the pitfalls of ‘Fear of Missing Out’. Another Barbadian, Founder and Director of Bitt Inc, Gabriel Abed, is also a featured speaker at the conference.
A Barbados contingent, including representatives of IB, local service providers and fintech executives will be attending this three-day conference, using the opportunity to showcase why Barbados is a sound choice for fintech companies. Barbados is home to the first blockchain start-up in the Caribbean, Bitt Inc, co-founded in 2014 by two visionary Barbadians who are also working with other Caribbean territories that are keen to embrace this evolving technology. Barbados has since attracted a number of international fintech companies and has launched a regulatory sandbox to facilitate further growth of the sector.
Among the topics to be discussed at the conference will include
- ‘Crossing the Chasm – The Next 100 Million Crypto Users’;
- ‘Cypherpunks and Wall Street’;
- ‘Blockchain and the Fourth Wave of Media Technology’;
- ‘Applications of Blockchain Time-Stamping’;
- ‘The Decentralised You’ and
- ‘Bitcoin 2.0 – Getting to $1 Trillion’.
